Project 3 Timeline

  • M, 11/10: Mock-up, Storyboard, and/or Outline.
  • M, 11/17: Presentation Sign-up.
  • W, 11/19: Rough Cut for Peer Feedback; Project 3 Revision Plan.
  • F, 11/21: Selfie showing yourself at work.
  • W, F, M, W, 12/3–12/10: In-class Presentations.
  • W, 12/10: Project Due by 11:55 PM.

So far I have decided what tools I will be using and the basic storyline of my project. I have also decided what materials I will need to complete this project, but have not started gathering them. I will need a copy of the 2004 and 1956 movies to take clips or screenshots from (possibly a YouTube video or DVD copies of the movies), a source of screenshots that are already posted on the internet (most likely from Google image searches), and a reference of the travels in the original novel, which I believe I have already located.

On Friday and this weekend (11/7-11/10) I will work on creating a rough draft on Prezi what I would like my project to look like. I will choose or import a layout and possibly add some potential screenshots to get an idea what the layout will look like.

The next step would be to research all three versions of the story and create an itinerary, selecting legs of each journey to include in my project so that I can ‘remix’ the story. I will create an informal itinerary by 11/12-11/14.

Then I will begin the in-depth work on Prezi, first by creating a frame of the entire itinerary. Because my layout will most likely be a map, I will start by selecting points on the map that will designate where I will be importing video clips, screenshots, and flight plans. I will complete this by 11/19.

I will then begin importing all of the media that I have collected and this should take me from 11/21 until the rest of the time that we have to work on the project (12/3-12/10). I think that I should have plenty of time to complete this project because I have began watching Prezi tutorials and am getting used to the program. I am familiar with the other tools, MovieMaker and Snipping Tool, so it will really come down to the grinding work of finding particular clips that match which section of the itinerary I am trying to reference.

11/5/14- Project Three Planning

What I Did

Today, I got a little further at planning out my third project. I started looking at online platforms through which to tell my story, and I chose Creatavist and signed up for an account. I also made the following timeline to schedule out my work:

  • Before class on Monday 11/10: Create rough draft of my new story – figure out what pictures/ videos I need
  • M, 11/10: Mock-up, Storyboard, and/or Outline
  • W, 11/12: Work on drafting project (in class and out)
  • F, 11/14: Work on project (in class)
  • Over weekend, before class Monday 11/17: Prepare rough cut
  • M, 11/17: Presentation Sign-up
  • W, 11/19: Rough Cut for Peer Feedback; Project 3 Revision Plan
  • F, 11/21: Selfie showing yourself at work
  • Over break: make revisions to projects, prepare for presentations
  • W, F, M, W, 12/3-12/10: In-class Presentations
  • W, 12/10: Project Due by 11:55 P.M.

Why I Did It

I chose to use Creatavist because it supports text, images, and audio – all elements that I would like to include in my project. I started planning out a timeline to keep myself on track throughout the project. By the end of the weekend, I want to have a rough draft of my story coming together so I can really get to work on Creatavist.

The One With the Timeline

Today we had to create a timeline for our project for the rest of the year. Before I began to create my timeline I first did an outline of each of the boards I want to create. So far I have 16 boards that I wish to create. I’m hoping that each board will have anywhere from 3-8 pins on the board. As of right now I want to have 16 boards, but that may change depending upon how many pins I am able to find.

Timeline:

Blog Post for November 5, 2014

Last class I presented 2 ideas to the class base on childhood stories that incorporate Hokie Spirit into the tales.  I decided to work with A Very Hungry Caterpillar.  I want to use Instagram (possibly Presi) to incorporate the story into a freshman’s encounter with Virginia Tech’s premier dining facilities.  The risks that I am taking is with taking quality pictures, adding creative text, locations, planning the timeline of the story, drafting a solid conclusions, and possibly using Presi.

To organize my project, I have drafted a timeline to keep myself on track.

11/3:  Present topics to class; decide on topic

11/4:  Create Instagram Account and begin collecting images

11/5:  Outline timeline of project

11/7:  Research and gather information.

11/10:  Outline Story

11/12: Review Outline

11/14:  Work on gathering images and ensuring #tags and locations are optimal.

11/17: Presentation Sign Up; Decide if photo editing will be needed.

11/19: Rough draft of working on project

11/21: No Class, selfie of working on project

12/1: Have presentation complete and begin rehearsing.

12/3–12/10: In-class Presentations

12/10 at 11:55PM: Project Due

Timeline

M, 11/10: Mock-up, Storyboard, and/or Outline.

M, 11/12: Find all clips needed for video

M, 11/17: Presentation Sign-up.

M, 11/17: Begin putting clips together over weekend

W, 11/19: Rough Cut for Peer Feedback; Project 3 Revision Plan.

F, 11/21: Selfie showing yourself at work.

F, 11/21: Use break to finish project

W, F, M, W, 12/3–12/10: In-class Presentations.

W, 12/10: Project Due by 11:55 PM.

Working from home: Timeline

Here’s my timeline for the project. Really, it reads more like a schedule, because I wasn’t able to find a timeline generator that allowed me to go into as much detail as I felt necessary about what I was doing every day.

Timeline for Project 3

W, 11/5: Project Timeline

F, 11/7: Create different versions of reject princesses using illustrator, dabble in InDesign to help determine capabilities and size constraints, present pitch

M, 11/10: Mockup, Storyboard, and/or Outline

W, 11/12: Make firm selections for images to be used, revise as necessary, place them in document

F, 11/14: Write main text based on image examples selected and place them in the document

Su, 11/16: Finish any remaining tasks from previous week at InnovationSpace

M, 11/17: Presentation Sign-up, begin work on side bars (supplementary polls, emphasized quotes, etc)

W, 12/10: Project Due by 11:55 PM

What I Did

I created a timeline for my project that will help me to stay on schedule during the project construction period. I made sure that every critical step in the process was specifically mentioned on at least one day, and I included a catch-up day every week on Sunday (or Monday, in the case of the final week, because I wasn’t sure if InnovationSpace would reopen on the Sunday or Monday after Thanksgiving).

Why I Did It

I included each step because I want to make sure that I don’t forget about anything. I included catch-up days on Sundays because I have meetings on campus on Sundays, so it will be easy for me to get to InnovationSpace if I need to catch up. I need InnovationSpace for most of the work I’ll be doing for this project, as I do not have InDesign or Illustrator on my computer. I thought that it was important to have a catch-up day so that I can stay focused on what I’m supposed to do each day in class. There are some days that I’m already worried about not having enough time (especially character creation, since I’ve never used Illustrator), and I want to ensure that, if I do fall behind, I am able to catch up with my schedule before it becomes overwhelming to do so.

Timeline for Project 3

11/5: Begin Story Board & Save Sources

Weekend: Perfect Story Board

11/10: Story Board

11/11: Begin Timeline on Tiki-Toki

Weekend: continue working on timeline/wedding

11/17: Sign up for presentation

11/18: Finish text-portion of time line/ start gathering pictures

11/19: Peer Reviews

11/20: Add pictures on to timeline/heed comments from classmates

11/21: Work from home selfie (probably in the car)

Upon return from break: perfect timeline/glitches/write massive psychology research paper

12/5 or 12/8: In class Presentation

Today in class I wrote a timeline for project 3.  I tried to keep in mind my other academic and personal commitments (my mother-in-law’s wedding which is 7 hours away).  I chose to not force myself to have pictures by the time peer-reviews rolls around because I wanted to keep some of it a surprise.  I also did not want to put too much on my plate which would cause excessive crying and sleeping due to stress.  But who knows, I may get more done in a shorter amount of time!

I am probably going to hand-write my story story board because that is how I pre-write all of my papers and projects. Just something about getting it all down on an actual piece of paper puts my mind at ease and thankfully, I’m not prone to losing things.

As per my timeline, here are the sources I’ll be using:
