Day IV

What I did

Today I updated my about page and added a picture my parents took when were hiking near the Swiss Alps this past summer. I added an additional page for my graphic design work. I played around with the themes color and changed the background to black; however, I decided not to pursue this.

Why I did it

I updated my about page to make this online platform more personal. I added the design page to increase the personal touch and brainstormed more ideas to really make this a genuine blog about the improvements I will be implementing.

What I Did

I think today was about working on the details of the blog. I updated a few of my widgets to make them more personalized. I also created my Site Informaiton page to add to the site.

Why I Did It

Within my widgets, I included a blogroll. This is a list of links that have to do with me, or that I am interested in. I renamed it “Related Links” because some people might not understand what a Blogroll is otherwise. I made that change for usability and ease.

My site information page was also created with usability in mind. I named it “Inner-workings” instead of site information to make it a little bit more interesting for the reader. It’s kind of like a behind-the-curtain look at what my portal is made up of. I wrote an intro, and then I added two sections: Insight and Design Specs. Insight is the fluffy stuff – why I personally like my page. Design Specs includes more information about the details of my page.

What I did

Today, I worked on my site information page for most of the time. Next, I changed the accent color on my site from teal blue to a rustic yellow. I also thought about what else I could add to my site to make it A work. One idea was to add a portfolio aspect with some of my previous work. I also thought about adding a more personal touch related to novels and their digital counterparts. I am still brainstorming ideas and hopefully, I can add something worthwhile.

Why I did it

I worked on my site information because it is the last required page that I need to update and finish. I am still working on the content for this page but I hope to finish it by next class for peer review. I am working on how to format and word the site information page because it is unfamiliar territory for me. I changed the color from blue to yellow because the yellow seemed to match the picture in my header and the tone of the website better. I want to add something extra to my site in order to show that I put in a considerable amount of effort and also to add a personal touch to my site.

Under Construction

What I Did

Today, I got caught up, since I missed class on Friday. Then, I made a few pages for the blog! Yay! Actually, it is very exciting, and I’m really quite happy with what I’m doing just now. It’s not perfect, nor anywhere close to done, but it’s certainly a start. I made three draft pages for the projects, a published About page, and a published Site Info page. The About page is by far the most complete, though I might go back and edit for tone and content. The Site Info page has nearly nothing, but I will put more in as I decide exactly what I want in it. I managed to apply my very first image to my blog, too.

Why I Did What I Did

I really wanted to make sure I at least have a start. If I get the bare bones of everything I need, it won’t be so difficult to fill everything in as I go along. I see a lot of people around me with very sophisticated looking pages, but I’m not feeling particularly intimidated by my very simple output. I like simple blogs, and that’s what I’m going to create. I’m not a picture person, so visuals will be limited, but they will be there! If that came across defensive, it wasn’t supposed to, I promise.

Backpack Vibes

Mulitmodal Dig

  1.  Veuve Cliqout cork logo (V): cork from the champagne bottle I was given as a gift on my 22nd birthday in Paris.
    • It has it is logo on the top of the cork and on the bottom. It has the name printed on the bottom and “champagne” printed on the side.
    • It is spaced out appropriately.
  2. SOL headphones (V,L,S,A):
    • You can recognize these visually, they are white and have a nice sleek look.
    • The logo itself is great, something people can recognize the brand with.
  3. Vaseline Lip Therapy (V):
    • It’s a miniature size of the standard Vaseline size. Visually it looks.
    • The classic Vaseline logo is on the front and is laid out simple.
  4. Ray-Ban / Ray-Ban case logo (V):
    • These are the classic black Ray-Ban’s, along with the classic black case.
    • The cases always have a “stamp” on the left side with it’s logo and a description of the UV protection.
  5. Outdoor Products water bottle volume lines(L,S):
    • The focus of this is targeted toward the text.
    • It has volume measurement values for how much liquid you want to put in it, or see how much is left.
  6. Pilot G-2 pen text (V, L):
    • The text of the pen is on the clip, which you can clip on a pocket, etc.
    • Visually, then pen is notorious for its sleek look.
  7. Topflight notebook logo (V,L):
    • It’s kind of confusing because the line of the notebook’s logo is larger.
  8. Planner (no text on front) (V,S):
    • It’s a standard planner, looks like a notebook since there is nothing identifying it.
    • The inside is nicely spaced out for writing down several reminders.
  9. Cambridge Limited leather bound notebook/folder (V,S)
    • It’s visually appealing to the eyes.
    • The notebook inside has premium paper and nicely spaced out.
  10. iPhone Charger (V):
    • I’m kind of running out of things to describe well, but this is a standard iPhone 4 charger.
    • It’s white, the usb slot is a nice cube shape.
  11. Food Lion MVP card on my Keys (V,S,L):
    • The logo on this is nice and huge on the front.
    • It’s easy to identify what it’s use if for.
  12. G-shock text on inside watch (V,S):
    • The company logo Casio is in small text along with the line G-Shock.
    • The text is centered and the spacing is perfect on it – great craftsmanship.

Day 4: Blog Touchups

Today I decided to revamp my blog so that it was more personalized and creative. I had most of the important basics for the purpose of the blog, but I needed to find a good balance between the visual effects and efficiency of the blog itself. Instead of just adding pictures to make the blog more personal, I added links and pages to the blog.

Linking my twitter and a photo album, as well as previous projects from my other classes gives the reader a feel for who I am as well as the purpose for the blog.

9.8.14

What I Did:

During today’s class, I added three new pages to my site. I added one called Daily Posts, one called Contact Me, and a home page. I also added several widgets. To the sidebar I added a text box with a little about me and a link to the about me page, a search bar, and a follow button. I removed the search widget and the follow widget from the footer, and added contact information to the footer.  I also created a new category for posts, called “Daily Posts.”

Why I Did it:

I added the daily posts section to my blog as a way of categorizing all these posts I’m writing each day. It will make them easier to find, and make the blog much more organized. I added both the contact section in the footer and the contact page to make it easier for those viewing my blog to get in touch with me. I put a static page as my home page because it states the purpose of the blog and provides an introduction before people delve deeper into the blog. I categorized all the posts because it makes them more organized and easier for me to sort.

About my “About Me”: A Reflection on Reflection

Hello again old friend,

Today I updated the “About Me” page on my blog. This is a critical step forward for my WordPress because it allows visitors to my blog to really get to know me, connect on a level deeper than is possible through front page blog posts. I still have many changes I plan to make on my WordPress, such as additional pages, possibly better images, and a small army of widgets.

Web Portal Tune-Up

Today I made some minor adjustments to my WordPress site, but I am very happy with the outcome. I removed some unused widgets on the sidebar, but added an Instagram widget that leads to my Instagram account. Right now the preview is a video of me flying in a glider, which ties in perfectly with the theme of my site. I also changed the background to a different picture of a carrier. The previous picture was mostly covered up by my previous posts, so I found a picture that had the ships towards the edge of the image so they are in full view when looking at my site. This picture also allows my header fonts to be read more clearly, which is a good fix because I cannot change the font colors myself without having to pay for an upgraded WordPress account. I also added a page called “Photo Gallery” that features a slideshow of some of my favorite pictures of aircraft and ships that I have uploaded to my media folder on WordPress.
