DAY VI

What I Did

Today I got to everything I wanted to. I polished my about us page and added a drop down for Alpha Phi Omega, an organization I am in. I also added more graphic design work and added another drop down for more of my work.

Why I Did It

I think I accomplished the goal of making it more personalized. I feel like people will be able to understand a little bit more of my background and personality. I think I have done enough to this web portal for it to be presented.

What I Did and Why: Friday Edition

What I did:

Today I changed my theme, edited and resized my header image, edited my site info page, and started collecting photos for my portfolio page.

Why I did it:

I changed my theme because the widgets were not visible enough for the viewer to find them and the colors were not working well with my background image that is so important to the core of my site. When I changed the theme, the photo was too small for the header section so I had to resize it to fit closer to the suggested size. I then had to edit my site info page to reflect that change in style. I have, finally, started to work on my portfolio section because it is the last piece of the project I need to finish to make my site reflect my personality and interests.

9/12/14 Class Happenings

What I Did
I added a row of images below the text of my About Me page. I inserted a link to the Join the MV’s section of the Marching Virginians’ website on my VT Football/MV Schedule page. I added some information to my Site Information page. I linked it to W3schools, which is a site I used for coding help.

Why I did it
My ABout Me page needed more color and personalization, and the pictures represent some groups I mention and some of my friends. I added the link to join the MV’s so that interested people knew where to go. I added to my Site Information page because it was pretty barren and needed more.

Blog Post for September 12, 2014

Today in class we worked on finishing our blogs for project 1.  I challenged myself to find a way to add all 5 modes to my sight.  I am struggling to add both aural and gestural.  If you have any ideas, let me know!

What I Did:

I updated my About Me page and my Site Information page.  I made the headings of my posts uniform, and introduced the bold section headings.

Why I Did It:

I updated my About Me page to add interest and visuals.  I added a picture as well as personal information. I updated the section headings and experimented with headings.

What I Need to Do:

I still need to add a SHH page or video to my About Me page.  Change the headings on my About Me page so that the pictures are spatially and ascetically more pleasing.  I need to remove the term Posts from the menu.  On the Site Information, I need to link to the related post where I explained the decisions I made.

Refining my Blog

What I did

Today was just about refining my blog. I didn’t do a whole lot, but I did add and delete some things here and there. I started off by adding a few more pictures to my “About me” page. These are photos that represents me and give a little more insight into who I am as a person and what I enjoy. I then deleted one of my widgets. I deleted the map widget because it wasn’t adding anything to my blog. It was just visually appealing but other than that it wasn’t adding to anything. I then went through all my pages and looked over everything, the biggest thing I changed there were the paragraphs and the length of them. I didn’t realize it before, but some of my paragraphs were really long blocks of text. I created smaller paragraphs that were easier to read.

Why I did it

There reason I added more pictures to my “About me” page was because I wanted to create more visuals for the reader. Everyone likes to look at pictures, they tell you more about a person than just blocks of text. This lets you see who I am outside the classroom. I then deleted the map widget because it wasn’t adding anything to my blog. At first I thought it was informative, but after looking it over it wasn’t really adding much of anything. And for that reason I deleted it. I only want widgets and other visuals on my blog that will add to its appearance and not take away from it. Lastly, I broke up the blocks of text that I felt were very long for the reason that they were too long. Seeing a large block of text puts off a reader and no one will read it. So for that reason alone I broke them up and they are not easier to read.

New Pages, Pics, and Posts

Since last class I have added a fair amount of changes to my WordPress. I added a slide show of images to my “About Me” page so the reader can get a better look at me. I added a new page entitled “Site Information” which though currently empty, will soon be full of many fine […]

Friday, September 12th

What I did

Today I worked on arranging the photos on my “Outside the Classroom” page. While I was successful, I wasn’t able to leave captions on the images; instead, you can see the caption has a sort of pop-up when you hover over the image with the mouse. The other thing I did was add a static image to my “Home” page.

Why I did it

I arranged my bonsai images in order to provide some more flow to that page. I think I was successful. I only created two columns of images so that views with smaller browser windows will be able to view the site without mashing up the page, especially since the header in this theme is rather large. Hopefully the new image on my home page will spice it up a little bit, although, I’m worried it may be too distracting since it is a nature image, much like my header.

Due Date Approaching!

What I Did
I spent most of the class period today making changes to my blog that my classmates suggested within our peer review assignment. Specifically, I resized my header image so that viewers on smaller screens will not have to scroll as much to see my page titles. I also condensed some of my pages so that they are under a parent page, making my list of page titles one row instead of two. I also asked Professor Gardner all of the final questions I had about our assignment.

Why I Did It
I made most of the suggestions that my classmates gave me during our peer review because I really valued their input and thought their suggestions were great. Although I might not have made changes in the exact way they recommended, I did revise my site so that it now incorporates their ideas. I want my site to be completed by Monday, so I made sure to ask Professor Gardner all of my questions before class ended.

I still have some work to do, but I am really excited to see the finished product.

The touches are final

So today I put the final touches on my blog! With the help of our super awesome teacher, I learned how to get rid of those pesky extra widgets. This way, the bottom of my blog looks nice and clean.  I also added a new page and two new videos.  I added a goofy page about my fiance because I think it is pertinent for readers to know about the most important part of my life. Of course, I then added a cheesy picture and video of us.  I added a video of my duck collection to my About Me page because I think readers will actually believe me if I show a video.  Finally, I added the finishing touches on my blog by proof reading my text and then adding picture and video credit.  I hope you enjoy my blog!!!
