Listen to Meme

For the meme assignment, I went a little out of the box. I used a less popular photo and added my own caption to create this masterpiece, which is up for interpretation:

My meme can be taken in multiple ways. It can be taken in a figurative sense, where the expression on the dog’s face is a reaction to the feeling of having a messy room-mate. The dog is making a passive aggressive facial expression, where it not only looks frustrated, but also just plain grossed out.

Then, there is the literal sense, which is where my inspiration came from. This weekend, a new room-mate was introduced into my apartment, much to my annoyance. It’s a micro teacup pig that my human room-mate bought and brought to school. It’s only a few weeks old, so it smells, it squeals, and it just does weird things. I’m not amused by its screeching in the middle of the night, so I decided to make a meme about it.

World, meet Stanley:

So, to my future room-mates, all I have to say is do not ever go buy a pig and bring it to our apartment, or you will see that same look on my face as the meme I created.

I chose to create a meme that related to what a student at Virginia Tech may face during their everyday schedule: weather. My audience is any student and possibly faculty member at Virginia Tech. I think this could be effective, because a highly common topic of conversation at Virginia Tech is almost always it’s ever-changing and unpredictable weather. I have always like the Futurama Fry meme, because it matches my sarcastic type of humor. I’m not sure if it’s as commonly known as other types of memes, but I believe it should be easy to identify with.

Meme: Moon Moon

Today we learned about memes, this is the a moon moon meme that I created. I hope you enjoy it

A Hokie-Inspired Meme

Meme for wordpressAs a junior at Virginia Tech, I have had many class schedules that required me to get from one end of the Drillfield to the other in just 15 minutes! As many Hokies know, this is not an easy task– especially in nasty weather! I created this meme to make light of the aggravation that many Hokies experience when forced to quickly trek the Drillfield.

Blog Post for September 26, 2014

In class today, we discussed the popularity of memes in convey sarcastic inferences about society through a combination of images and text.  After taking a look at some common images and the types of messages they convey, we were asked to create out own.

The two memes that I created below are about the frustrations of being an accounting major.  The humor in them should be fairly easy to understand, but likely would be funnier to other accounting majors.

I created these memes on memegenerator.com and was frustrated by the limitations of the application.  In the first image, I wish that the font was slightly smaller on top and larger on the bottom.  In the second image, I wish that the text was more proportional to the amount of blank space.

Creating a Meme

Meme

After class the other day when we were discussing memes, I walked out to the bus stop and saw my bus coming down the street and immediately fist pumped. The bus comes roughly every 15 minutes, so missing the bus can be a real pain, but every once in a while I will get lucky catch the bus right when it pulls up to the stop. This is especially lucky in the winter when it is cold or when it is raining. The other day I was feeling under the weather and was not looking forward to waiting outside for 10-15 minutes, but when I saw that beautiful Blacksburg Transit bus coming down the street, I immediately thought of the “Success Kid meme,” which is a picture of a small child who is making a fist and a face that makes it look like he is excited or pleased with something that has happened to him. This has been a very popular meme on the internet for a few years now and is one of my personal favorites.

Meme Time.

thinking_with_portals_by_pbernardes-d3j1uv9

I created this in Photoshop, and it puns off of the catch line for a popular video game called Portal, which states “Now you’re thinking with Portals.” In the game you control “portals” to complete tasks while trapped in an underground testing facility controlled by a maniacal robot interface. At some point she states this is a creepily cold and calculated robot voice that really digs in how the brain-washing is affecting you, whether you like it or not. Similarly, if you read memes a lot, you begin to automatically draw connections to them in your life, processing and assimilating information and situations into these various frameworks. Welcome to the Twilight Zone!
