Project 2 Work – 10/3/14

What I Did

Today, I got a decent amount of work done on my “Interrogate an Interface” project. First, I re-read through the project guidelines. Then, I made a Word document similar to the one we filled out in class and started to write about affordances and constraints, rhetorical situation, design choices, and modes of communication. I started exploring the Canva website more, since that is my chosen tool.

Why I Did It

Today was largely an organization day for me, which helps me at the beginning of a project. On my Word document, I laid out the information that I need to be gathering as I go through the Canva website and complete this project. This will help me stay organized and on task.

PicMonkey

PicMonkey seems like an awesome tool. I was originally going to choose Canva, but I was beat to picking it. PicMonkey is basically a simple photo editing tool with various features. It is also a cloud based service which means you can share it over social media platforms.

Friday-Morning Feeling GIF

gif for class most most recentAfter a long week of classes, I often wake up very happy on Friday mornings knowing that the academic week is almost over and I can soon enjoy the weekend– a feeling that I’m sure all college students experience. Although slightly blurry, the video clip that I chose from “The Lego Movie” accurately portrays this happy, Friday-morning feeling because it depicts someone just waking up and jumping in excitement for the day. By using the gestural mode of communication, I was able to craft a GIF that depicts how one reacts when experiencing the happy, Friday-morning feeling, rather than simply describing the feeling in a picture that uses the spatial, gestural, and linguistic modes of communication.

Creating a GIF

SeanT

Sean Taylor was a Pro-Bowl safety for the Washington Redskins from 2004-2007 before being murdered in his home on November 27, 2007. Taylor always was and always will be my favorite athlete. On Friday September 26, 2014, the NFL Network aired an episode of their series titled “A Football Life.” The episode that aired last Friday featured a more in-depth look into the person that Sean Taylor was on and off the field.

This GIF is meant to pay homage to Taylor’s life. The GIF is a play from the final regular season game of the 2005-2006 season against the Philadelphia Eagles. During this play, Taylor picks up a fumble and runs the ball into the end zone, clinching a Redskins playoff birth.

Meme

This meme is very simple and appeals to any student at Virginia Tech. From my personal experience, I’ve had to wait in seriously long lines at Qdoba. I’m certain my peers have similar stories to share.

Another GIF

This is what I feel like saying every time I have to buy expensive books at the beginning of the semester…

I Meme It.

On Friday in class, we worked on making Meme’s. A classmate of mine described them as “a joke that you have more time to think about”. Although that is true, I’m not that good at jokes no matter how long I have to think about them. So, I decided to go with what I know, real life. The meme’s I made are pretty much things I (or in one case, my fiance) would say in real life. Enjoy!

Animated Memes

With this GIF coupling, I was trying to create a humorous juxtaposition between our football team’s “perception” of themselves after the Ohio state game versus their actual offensive output. I put perception in quotes because I don’t actually know how they feel about themselves. I think it worked well, but that’s really for the audience to decide. The addition of the gestural mode didn’t just change the way I designed the GIF, it defined it. Without the gestures I have no argument whatsoever.
