Cowbird

This tool seems like it would be very helpful for budding writers. The aspect I am most interested in trying out would have to be the Seeds feature. I love prompts, especially if I’m dealing with writer’s block. Also, it would be super fun to read other people’s work. I’m sure there are some less than wonderful things to be read, but also some pretty awesome ones.

The tool I was really interested in today was Infog.ram. I work on campus at the career center as a Peer Advisor, and am a contributing member to two blogs. In these blog posts I frequently need to include infographics but cannot always find one that is suitable. I’d like to try out Infog.ram to make some of my own infographics!

9.15.14

While all the tools presented today were interesting, the one I’m most interested in testing out is Canva. I don’t own the Adobe Suite, but frequently need to quickly design something for one of my freelance web jobs. In the future I will consider using Canva to address these needs.

9.13.14

The presentation that most interested me today was the first one on 750 words. I’ve long kept a little journal where I write down random thoughts, but writing gets tiring, you fill up notebooks, and you lose notebooks. 750 Words is a great way to inspire people to write more and to make it easier to do, and I think I will definitely try it out in the future.

piktochart

Of all the tools related to graphic design that I’ve seen this week, Piktochart seems like the easiest tool to use. Before we signed up for our tools, I was interested in doing Piktochart because I liked the tool so much. I like how it has templates that you can use and change to how you want them. The templates are appealing and they look great. All you have to do us update it with your information. Overall, I think Piktochart seems easy to use and creates great documents.

Missing Round 3…

So, I think I am becoming a narcoleptic dog. One minute I’m awake, the next I am face down at my desk. It’s a rough life. Anyway, although I missed the presentations today, I am lucky enough to sit by Reece who did his on a comic strip interface. I personally have never been a fan of comics, and I don’t think I am funny enough to ever make one as you’ve all probably seen on my Memes. To be honest, I was overall very disappointed with the interfaces themselves. They all had such awful glitches, or were mildly useless without the paying upgrade.

Prezi

I think I would be most interested in Prezi. I have been a part of a group project that has used it before, but I’ve never done it myself. It looks like such an easy way to present information in a more interesting way than Powerpoint. I really don’t like doing presentations, so I think a more interesting visual to accompany me in front of an audience would make it easier.

After looking at the website, a  few concerns I have with the tool include that it could be overly busy for a presentation. The movement and number of details might be distracting during a presentation. I know the interactivity is definitely an affordance however. I also wonder how easy it really is. It looks like there are so many options that might make it hard to catch onto.

Project Presentations: Day 3

My favorite tool presented today was Prezi. I always love it when people present in class using Prezi, and I’ve been curious about the tool. I think it’s really cool that the tool is so versatile, and it definitely shakes up the typical PowerPoint format. I think that it functions to grab the audience’s attention. I also like that it’s accessible from any computer with internet, and I have yet to see it get glitchy when others have used it. I would use it in a classroom presentation setting.

Blog Post for October 17, 2014

In class today, we learned about a variety of online platforms that allow users to create and export personal presentations, videos, infographics, and images.  Today I was impressed by the multitude of affordances offered by many of the platforms.  I was the most impressed with Infogram.  The site was one of the platforms that I had considered interrogating, and appeared to have more affordances than the Visme platform I interrogated.
