What I Did and Why I Did It: 10/29

What I Did:

I’ve still been looking around at different forms of Beauty and the Beast and different tools I may use to tell my story. I’ve been grouping different sets of ideas together so that I have a few choices on how to do the story. We also went over a lot of the technicalities of the project during class today so now I have all of those tasks running through my head and how I’m going to gather and keep track of my information.

Why I Did It:

I want to collect a lot of ideas for this project so if one thing doesn’t work I have a few backup plans. I also really need to keep track of where I’m getting all of my sources and assets so that when it comes time to give credit where credit is due, I am able to do so easily

10/29/14 – Beginning Project 3

What I Did

Today, I brainstormed ideas on how I want to present my project. I’ve decided to use the movie “Frozen,” and I think I would like to connect it to Virginia Tech. My idea for now is to connect Frozen to Virginia Tech, probably by doing a play off of Blacksburg weather. I also think that I want to use an online story-making site like some of the ones that were presented in P2, because I want to use mainly visuals and text. Today I also made a spreadsheet to track my sources and assets.

Why I Did It

I spent today getting organized because I want to have a good idea of the direction of my project. This way, when we have our first work day I won’t waste too much time coming up with ideas.

Wednesday, October 29th

Today I did some “thought work” on how my project will look as a final product. This information is in my blog post from Monday.

Additionally, I used Illustrator to create a first draft of the “old paper” look I may use for Ichabod’s final diary. This may receive more edits and details, but it’s a start. Screen Shot 2014-10-29 at 10.56.20 AM

Brainstorming: Monsoon Season

Since Monday I have been doing a lot of work on my project, but most of it mental. My thoughts are coming down like cats and dogs in this virtually literal brainstorm. I have decided to redo the classic tail of the Lord of The Rings, if you’ve never heard of this series then I […]

Remix a Story: Update

I’ve decided I probably will not go with shooting a video. I am leaning more towards do a twitter account or some type of twitter conversation with an audio layover. I’m still brainstorming on ideas of how to make it intriguing and unique, which is the hardest part for me.

I also have an idea of remixing the illustrations from the book with some pop culture icons, but I’m still deciding that also.

The One Where I Need to Figure Out My Project

On Monday I was all set to do an alternative ending to How I Met Your Mother because I finished the series yesterday and HATED the ending. However, I feel like making an alternative ending would be too easy…Barney and Robin would still be together and the mother would not have died. Instead I am thinking about doing a Pinterest board for each character based on what they like.

What I did…
Looked into the history of How I Met Your Mother. I looked at Buzzfeed and Wikipedia to find out some more information on the show that I didn’t know before.

Why I did it…
I wanted to get more information on HIMYM. I’m still not convinced on what I want to do for my project.

What I’ve Done and Why I’ve Done It

Since Monday, I’ve been re-reading Pride and Prejudice. I want to make sure I am fresh on all the details of the story so I can capture everything in my project. This is my first and most important task!

Blog Post for October 29, 2014

Sorry I was late to class today, my Tax Test ran over and my class is a bit of a hike across campus.

Today in class we discussed some important terms and went over some helpful information for the final project. I have added the terms source and asset to my list of terms.  Last class I picked a few sources to guide my thoughts.  I have also gathered a few assets.

We were advised to find a place to store our thoughts and collect our sources and assets.  After discussing the importance of copyrights, permission, and fair use terms, I decided to compile my findings in a google document.

I am still considering a variety of platforms to share my story on an have yet to discuss my project with Traci.  As it stands, I would like to do some form of time line.  I am concerned with the complexity of my story.  Since I am elaborating on a very simple story, I am concerned with the extensive originality and amount of the story I am creating if I continue to pursue this story.

The Library of Crime

Today, I decided to explore my sources more to see if there was any information that the Lizzie Borden Documentary didn’t cover.  I was happy to see that all of the information I had previously was correct and got even more details on the life and [possible] crime that Lizzie committed. I was surprised that the website had a such in-depth stories that were actually had chapters and read like a book. The authors also cite all of their sources on a separate Bibliography page which gives me easy access to different evidence of the case, the overall life of Lizzie Borden, and other cases in the time period.  Something that I want to keep in mind is the fascination Americans have had with this case as it was the first nationally-known case.  The case also has an “open-ending” which is contrary to what the jury found back in 1892.  Although I will change the story, I want to keep those two elements prominent when I come up with ideas.

This information allows me to work on a rough-timeline in my head so I can perfect one once I fully remix the story.  I don’t think I will run into a lot of problems with copyrighted pictures unless I get one out of a book.  Most of what is online is not copyrighted because the pictures/drawings were taken in the late 19th century.
