Today I worked on making some final touches to my video. I am still working on lining up the music with the video and deciding whether or not I am going to add another song in the middle. I have to make this decision and put in the new song before I can make the final edits to adjust the audio levels. I have also been tweaking the length of the clips individually. I have started to think about credits and how I am going to cite my sources. I also started working on my presentation.

Why I did it

I am working on the audio because it is an important aspect and because it is one of the only aspects of my video that I have left to complete. I want to add a new song because the first song does not flow well into the second song; I need a little transition between the two. I am tweaking some of the clips because when I re-watched the video, a few seemed too long. I need to add credits to cite my sources and I started on my presentation because I am presenting on Wednesday.

What I did

Tonight, I worked on my project for a little over an hour. I mostly worked on the music. I added markers to the songs (seen in the picture below) and aligned the video with the markers that I added. I lined up the scene splits with the beat of the music. I also lined up important clips with specific parts of the music. I had to listen to the songs a few times to decide which parts of the music should align with which clips.

Why I did it

I marked the music in iMovie so I would know where to line up the clips. I wanted to line up the clips with the music so the video would have be more cohesive. With these new changes, visual and audio work together to help my video have more impact. Now that I am almost finished with the audio aspect of my video, I am pretty much finished with my video. I just have to keep tweaking the audio and some of the clips and add some final touches.

One of the biggest aspects of my project that I need to revise is the sound. One song is louder than the other. You can’t hear some of the clips because they are too quiet or the song is too loud. I need to get all of the clips in place before I work on changing the levels because I have to split the audio. Revising the sound levels will have to be one of the last changes I make. I also might want to incorporate another song in the middle. In this draft, the music goes abruptly from sad music to uplifting music and I want to have a song in the middle to show the progression in the clips and throughout the video. The next time I work on my project, I will incorporate a new song and line it up with the clips. Once I get everything lined up, I can work on adjusting the sound levels.

Lastly, I need to add a title clip with a title for my video and a end clip with credits. I have to credit the movies and the tv show that I use. I also need to give credit to the songs that I use.

Since Monday, I have worked on splicing my clips together in iMovie. It is a tedious process that must be done with precision and attention to detail. I am working on getting the clips that I want from the full length clips and putting them in a rough order. After I have all the clips I want and think I need, I will put them in a more concrete order. As of now, I have a rough cut that I am still editing. I am still realizing more clips that I need to fill in gaps in the movie. So far, I am using about 4 movies and one tv show. I might incorporate more.

Why I did it

I am right on track with the schedule I set up for myself. Right now, I have a rough cut that I need to continue editing and adding shorter clips to make it cohesive. I am still looking for clips and splicing them because I have a mental image of what the final product will be, and I really want to achieve that. I want it to be the way I pictured it, but I still have a lot of editing to do before it gets there.

What I did

Since Friday, I finished my storyboard. I included the link above. It is a simple storyboard using GoogleDocs and images on each slide. The images represent the clips that I will use in the video. This is a good visual outline for me as I create my video. I also worked on gathering my video clips from YouTube. I have pretty much finished gathering clips, but I am still gathering a few last minute ones that I want to incorporate. I have to re-watch some of the movies to find times and to see which parts I want to use.

Why I did it

I wanted to finish my storyboard so I would have a clear outline to create my video with. I finished gathering clips because I wanted to stick to the outline I set up for myself. I have to re-watch parts of the movies because I want to capture the best parts to demonstrate my theme. I want to find scenes from the movies with great lines and visuals that represent what I am trying to achieve.

Today I worked on gathering clips and creating my storyboard. I have a lot of my clips downloaded, I just have to finish finding them and adding them to my folder. My storyboard is composed of screenshots from the clips.

Why I did it

I took screenshots for my storyboard to show the basic idea of the video and to help me when I’m making the video. I am gathering clips now so that it is easier to put them all in iMovie and splice them together.

I decided what story I am going to remix: beauty and the beast. I collected sources such as the original text, the original movie, and modern adaptations. I watched a few clips from the modern adaptations. I researched other clips that I want to use in my video and brainstormed other movies or tv shows that I could use.

Why I did it

I wanted to do beauty and the beast because I had an idea about it. When I was brainstorming which story to do, I was thinking about some of my favorite movies and stories, and beauty and the beast has always been my favorite disney princess movie. When thinking about how to remix it, I thought about how universal the theme in beauty and the beast is. The common thread in beauty and the beast is applicable in a lot of other situations in modern movies and tv shows and I want to show this through splicing these clips that I researched together in one message. This is where my idea came from. I watched some of the modern adaptations to see a different perspective than the original.
