Over Thanksgiving break, I decided to change my project once again. I have been struggling to work with both Premiere and iMovie on my laptop, but for some reason, they both crashed again and again. Instead, I will be working with InDesign, since it is a program I enjoy (and works on my computer!).

My project will be remixing Time Magazine with the Hunger Games. I am focusing on the first movie/book. I plan to incorporate the book’s quotes with images from the actual movie.

What I need to do

I have completed a basic layout for the magazine, but still need to write the actual articles of the framework.

Updates 11/7 http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/11/07/updates-117/ Fri, 07 Nov 2014 15:37:59 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=210 ]]> Today in class, we began planning our storyboard. While I am not at this step yet, I have begun to search for video clips for my project. I don’t think I can start the storyboard until I have all my materials and I know what I can use for sure. After I have obtained all of them, I will be able to use one of free resources to plan out my video clips.

Afterwards, I plan to use a free trial of Adobe Premiere to start putting my video together.

I have also been searching the internet for similar videos to what I am planning on creating. This includes from sites such as College Humor and YouTube. I am using these for inspiration and influence when making my own video.

This weekend I hope to have all my clips acquired and by next a basic layout of the video planned out.

Project 3: Story idea http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/10/29/project-3-story-idea/ Wed, 29 Oct 2014 13:50:12 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=200 ]]> I would like to tell the story of the 2012 presidential race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. I will focus primarily on the actual election and the campaigning leading up to the final election of Obama. I want to focus on the dynamics and differences between the two candidates.

My sources will include:

I’m using three different news sources to ensure I’m not falling into the bias of one news organization.

I would also like to use clips from the shows The Colbert Report and The Daily Show because I would like to put a funny spin on my story.

Day 2 of Project Presentations: Canva http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/10/20/day-2-of-project-presentations-canva/ Mon, 20 Oct 2014 14:21:33 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=197 ]]> What it is

Much like my own tool, Canva is tool meant for beginner graphic designers. You can create a wide range of designs, such as for Facebook, Twitter, business cards, reports, presentations or infographics. It’s an easy click and drag tool, much like a very simplified Photoshop or InDesign.

How it’s interesting / How I’ll use it

I like how it makes processes like making Facebook cover photos so simple. I have made my own on InDesign or Photoshop, but it’s always time consuming and complex. I think this could be a huge timesaver for designing quick items for a social media campaign for instance. I don’t think I will actually use this tool, but if I ever need to quickly design a business card, I know which site to turn to.

Day 1 of Project 2 Presentations: 750 Words http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/10/20/day-1-of-project-2-presentations-750-words/ Mon, 20 Oct 2014 14:16:15 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=195 ]]> What it is

750 Words is an online based tool that is meant for inspiring writers and allows for them to have a private setting to write everyday. They encourage writing everyday and give users creative achievements for doing so.

Why it interested me / How I’ll use it

I am a writer, but I feel like I don’t write enough everyday. I think it would be a cool application to use, because I could write quickly where ever I am on campus, since most of the time I do have Internet access, so that wouldn’t be a problem. What really caught my attention are the analysis tools that the resource offers–such as analyzing your common writing themes, word choices, adverbs, ect. This could be really useful for me in becoming a better writer. I would use this tool to practice on my creative writing or daily thoughts in between classes.

Getting started on Project 2 http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/10/08/getting-started-on-project-2/ Wed, 08 Oct 2014 14:44:55 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=144 ]]> What I Did

I created a rough outline of what I want my project to look like. I went through my resource and jotted down notes of things I noticed, liked, disliked, or found interesting. I also captured screenshots during this process of features I noted.

Why I Did It

I did this to begin my project–I know a lot of information needs to be included, which I still need to do, but this feels like a good starting place. It helped me realize what I am still missing.

What I Still Need to Do

To do list:

  • Include my own creation of a Piktochart
  • Include modes of communications
  • Include analysis of design
  • Make separate sections for all these notes
  • Create presentation

There is still a lot to do, but I am content with my foundation for now.

Starting Project 2 http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/10/03/starting-project-2/ Fri, 03 Oct 2014 14:47:59 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=131 ]]> What I Did

Today was the first day I began working on my Project 2 assignment. The resource I am focusing on is called Piktochart, which is a site that allows you to make interesting infographics, reports and presentations. They offer a variety of designs, graphics, and even charts. So far, I really like the website. During class, I just approached the site like someone needing to make a presentation for a project, completely open and unbiased. I made sure to note which features I really liked and which were hard to navigate or that the site lacked. I’m still learning how to use Piktochart, but I believe it should be relatively easy to master.

I still need to site down and write out all my thoughts for the essay portion of the project. I plan on using the actual site itself to make the presentation.

Why I Did It

I spent the whole class period learning how to use the site because I want to understand the ins and outs of Piktochart before I present and report on it. This will also help for when I present and my peers may have questions to ask me.

Cutest GIF of them all http://fall14blogs.tracigardner.com/2014/09/29/cutest-gif-of-them-all/ Mon, 29 Sep 2014 14:36:39 +0000 http://amollers.wordpress.com/?p=128 ]]>

GIF: French bull dog jumping off couch

I chose to GIF one of my favorite videos on the Internet. I was trying to capture the best part of the video–there is a lot of movement in the video, and this is the one that captures the most movement in a few seconds. This video would appeal to anyone with a heart, because a french bull dog puppy is the cutest one of them all. I think it worked pretty well, but would have been cooler if somehow it were a seamless loop. I also wish the quality of the video had been better, because the video seems a little dark. I believe the gestural mode enhanced the GIF.
